Overview
The Rules Engine automates the interpretation of pay and charge conditions for hourly variable timesheets. It is commonly used to interpret Awards and Enterprising Bargaining Agreements (EBAs).
For employees who are on daily rates and require interpretations, you will need to use an hourly timesheet and convert their hours to days with a Percentage of Time Worked rule.
There are a number of components that make up the rules engine, which you'll see in Config > Payroll, under the Pay Conditions heading. Pay Items also make up part of the rules engine configuration.
Rules Engine Components
The key components of the Rules Engine are:
Pay Items are set up to determine how earnings will be treated in payroll. When you set up each pay item, you will need to decide:
Rate Cards are used to hold pay rates, charge rates and oncosts for the Pay Items that you have set up when multipliers cannot be used. Each different combination of these makes up one rate card. These are assigned to the job or in the Occupation Library. |
The rules you create allow you to set the conditions that determine how a timesheet is interpreted and the actions that determine which pay items, charge items and rates will apply. |
Rule Groups are used to group rules together and control the order that rules are used in the interpretation process. The Rule Group is assigned to the job, customer or in the Occupation Library. |
Holiday Groups allow you to manage federal, state and regional public holidays. These holidays can then be included as part of your rules to determine how they are treated in payroll. |
