Overview
The Reports > System History > Communication Log is a record of all email and SMS notifications that are sent from your portal. It includes a history of the notification types and their sent and delivery statuses.
Using the Report Settings drop-down, you can filter the report by:
- Recipient Name
- Recipient Email or Phone Number
- Communication name
- Communication Method (Email, SMS, or All)
- Send Status (Sent, Error, Blacklisted, Queued, New, All)
- Sent Date
The Communication Log can be exported as a .csv or a .pdf.
Sent Statuses
The status that appears in the ‘Sent?’ column for each Communication Log entry identifies whether an email or SMS has been sent successfully.
The statuses include:
Sent | The communication has been sent from Astute |
New | The communication has been added to the Communication Log and is waiting to be sent |
Queued | The communication is queue to be sent. This will apply to SMS communications |
Error |
An error has occurred when attempting to send the communication Common reasons for this include the service being temporarily unavailable or a variation issue |
Blacklisted | The email address appears on our blacklist. The system will not attempt to send the communication |
Delivered Statuses
The ‘Delivered?’ status identifies whether an email or SMS has been delivered successfully.
The statuses include:
Delivered | The communication has been delivered successfully to the recipient. This status does not apply to SMS messages. |
Hard Bounce |
The communication could not be received by the recipient (eg the email address doesn’t exist) The system will not retry sending the communication and the associated email address will be blacklisted |
Soft Bounce |
The communication could not be received by the recipient at the time delivery was attempted This is for temporary issues (eg full inbox) and delivery may be successful next time |
Complaint | The recipient has marked Astute Payroll as spam |
Pending | The communication has been sent from Astute and is awaiting delivery |
N/A | The email or SMS notification was sent before the system changes were rolled out in the entity, so delivery for this item has not been tracked |
View Communications in the Communications Log
You can view what has been sent to a recipient for a specific communication by clicking the + icon in the left column.
An expanded report line will include the sender and recipient details in the Headers section, as well as an HTML and Text view of the communication content, so you can see what the recipient has received.
The original .eml file for each communication can be downloaded by clicking the link in the Download section. The file will include any attachments from the original email.
